What are we looking for?
Ok, so what do we actually want to add to this site? Images, text and film sure. But of what? Skateboarding dogs, surfing cats, embarrassing moments or enlightened Ninjas? Well, not this time. connect2earth is a little different. We're about providing a space for you to tell the world why you care about the environment and why it should be protected.
So what do we actually mean by "environment"?
Well, it's everything that makes up our surroundings and affects our ability to live on the Earth. It is about the inter-relationship that exists between water, air and land and all living things. It is about the air we breathe and the water we drink. Today, our environment is threatened by climate change, pollution, deforestation, biodiversity loss and a host of other problems affecting our quality of life.
To stop the degradation of the planet's natural environment and to build a future in which humans can live in harmony with nature, it will be important to conserve the world's biological diversity and ensure that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable.
Sustainability?
This is the ability to meet our needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. Today, however, the human race is plundering the planet at a pace that outstrips its capacity to support life
Change that improves living standards while reducing our impact on the natural world will not be easy. The cities, power plants and homes we build today will either lock society into damaging over-consumption beyond our lifetimes, or begin to propel this and future generations towards sustainable living.
It's not too late to reverse the trend, but it will require governments, industry and individuals to make significant changes in their consumption patterns. Only then can we begin to restore the balance between our consumption of natural resources and the Earth's ability to renew them.
